Korean Research Institute of Standards & Science (KRISS) offered material & technical assistance to National Metrology Institute of Ethiopia (NMIE) which is established to evaluate the accuracy of national calibration and to maintain  international standard of the Metrological laboratories in the country as well as cultivating professional with in the field of metrology. Established harmonious relations with national & international Metrology organization.

According to Ato Tadesse Gergiso the team leader of scientific dimenstioal metrology of NMIE reported the KRISS provided training & Metrology equipment for NMIE. Since 2009 the KRISS had established relations with the former Quality & Standards Authority of Ethiopia (QSAE). In 2010 the General Director of NMIE Ato Wondwosen Fisseha have visited KRISS and concluded a new agreement which served as a corner stone for the capacity building trainings & donations according to Ato Tadesse Gergiso.

As part of the agreement to Korean specialized Metrology experts came to NMIE & provide training for two senior Ethiopian experts in the areas of Mass, Volume & dimensional metrology. The training not only up grade the capacity of NMIE experts but also saved hard currency worthy of 6846.67 USD that can be allocated for in similar training.

In addition a Ethiopian expert sent to Korea for short term training on temperature Metrology and on density Metrology offered for NMIE experts. Further more a senior Ethiopia expert has got MSc scholarship in the filed of Metrology in Korea by the sponsorship of KRISS.  In fact all these capacity building trainings were fully sponsored by KRISS.

 In addition KRISS offered length Metrology instrument for NMIE and training on the operation of the instrument by the Korea specialists. Similarly- KRISS provided equipment of aluminum & silver

freezing point worthy of 100,000 USD & Dial Test instrument worth of 2200 USD. These instruments help the institute to retain its international accredited laboratories.

In general the historic Relations with Korea & special relationship with KRISS is    building the human & institutional capacity of NMIE.
